On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, our good friend chauffeured us through the rural roads of Caswell County. We relaxed in his car and enjoyed the scenery of farms, homes, and rolling landscapes. The foliage season was winding down, but we saw occasional pops of color.
Because we had just enjoyed a leisurely–and filling–lunch in Orange County, we didn’t didn’t need to stop for another meal. Instead, we took a quick look around Yanceyville, the county seat. The Historic Courthouse, completed in 1861, has a beautiful facade:
I particularly admired the corn and tobacco detailing on the capitals:
It was pretty quiet in the downtown area that afternoon; I couldn’t make my usual library stop, because the local library closes at 1:00 on Saturdays. Our friend wanted to stop by Yoder’s Country Market in Blanch, a very short drive from historic downtown Yanceyville.
While he was selecting a a cookie from the bakery counter, I walked among the shelves and was pleasantly surprised to find a variety of gluten-free baking mixes:I purchased a package of the pizza crust mix…I am still on my quest for great gluten-free pizzas. We also bought GF pasta and some candy to take home.
Yoder’s is a cute little spot to find snacks, jams, honey, and decorative items at reasonable prices. There is small sandwich and ice cream menu, as well. The staff was very friendly and encouraged browsing. It was like a step back in time!
